The Artifacts Project:
The stuff you save.
People save the oddest mementos from being in the
hospital and going through cancer treatment.  I scanned
every blood draw count slip and personally obtained the
CD-ROM of my first CT Scan (I recommend this because it
usually comes with a sweet 3D viewing program).  Most
survivors I talk to agree that ownership of these memories
and medical images are signs of resistance to a
depersonalizing medical condition.  How come the doctors
get to have all the information anyway?

So I thought that there might be some validity in examining
the stuff we hold onto. I made a video that was part of a
proposal for a larger artist-in-residence deal for a National
Cancer Institute. The
community submission part is ready
to roll.  I need some thoughts and pictures from you cancer
people.

Please note: This is not strictly a chick project. I had a call
for participants for the video and I only got one call from a
male survivor and he had a really full schedule. I went
ahead with the proposal video with all ladies because I
thought that once other people saw how liberating and
gross it was to show their medical scans and scar pictures
and other random stuff they saved - then everyone would
join in.

You may have watched the intro and you can download that
and other themed sections here:

Sorry - vid is down - will be back in a bit.
